Are you interested in American cultural values?
This summer I co-taught a class on Civil Discourse and it was definitely a learning experience!
After the class was over, I felt like I was spinning around in a maelstrom of research data and passionate feelings, plagued by a grave concern about the level of dissension in our country today, and wondering what to do next.
My husband, George, again urged me (as he has for over 30 years) to start writing a version of American Ways: An Introduction to American Culture, 4th Edition for Americans.
We both still believe that there is more that unites us as Americans—our deep, fundamental, core cultural values—than what divides us.
However, many young people know alarmingly little about these values—what they are and where they came from. And many of them are ignorant about basic American civics, which is no longer taught in most public schools, by the way.
Are you concerned about passing American cultural values on to your children and grandchildren?
We are concerned about passing on American cultural values, and that’s why we’re writing the American Handbook.
